چکیده

Core-selection is a crucial property of social choice functions, or rules, in social choice literature. It is also desirable to address the incentive of agents to cheat by misreporting their preferences. This paper investigates an exchange problem where each agent may have multiple indivisible goods, agents’ preferences over sets of goods are assumed to be lexicographic, and side payments are not allowed. We propose an exchange rule called augmented top-trading-cycles (ATTC) procedure based on the original TTC procedure. We first show that the ATTC procedure is core-selecting. We then show that finding a beneficial misreport under the ATTC procedure is NP-hard. Under the ATTC procedure, we finally clarify the relationship between preference misreport and splitting, which is a different type of manipu-

Exchange of Indivisible Objects with Asymmetry

In this paper we study the exchange of indivisible objects where agents’ possible preferences over the objects are strict and share a common structure among all of them, which represents a certain level of asymmetry among objects. A typical example of such an exchange model is a re-scheduling of tasks over several processors, since all task owners are naturally assumed to prefer that their task...

Balancing Lexicographic Fairness and a Utilitarian Objective with Application to Kidney Exchange

Balancing fairness and efficiency in resource allocation is a classical economic and computational problem. The price of fairness measures the worst-case loss of economic efficiency when using an inefficient but fair allocation rule; for indivisible goods in many settings, this price is unacceptably high. One such setting is kidney exchange, where needy patients swap willing but incompatible ki...

Existence of an Equilibrium in a General Competitive Exchange Economy with Indivisible Goods and Money

We introduce a general competitive exchange economy with indivisible goods and money. There are finitely many agents and finitely many indivisible goods. Each agent is initially endowed with several units of each indivisible good and certain amount of money. Money is treated as a perfectly divisible good. The agents’ preferences depend on the bundle of indivisible goods and the quantity of mone...

The Reactive Bargaining Set in Exchange Economies W Ith Indivisibilities and Money

The paper investigates the reactive bargaining set, a solution con cept for TU-games introduced by Granot (1994), in economies in which agents exchange indivisible goods and one perfectly divisible good (money). Under the assumptions that the preferences of the agents are quasi-linear and the initial endowments satisfy the Total Abundance condition, which is an abundance con dition on the mon...

Efficiency and envy-freeness in fair division of indivisible goods: logical representation and complexity

We consider the problem of allocating fairly a set of indivisible goods among agents from the point of view of compact representation and computational complexity. We start by assuming that agents have dichotomous preferences expressed by propositional formulae. We express efficiency and envy-freeness in a logical setting, which reveals unexpected connections to nonmonotonic reasoning. Then we ...
